A few months ago Storm Bowling introduced a new Master Line, showcased by the new customer favorite the Storm Prodigy. Storm has put serious effort into creating a new Centripetal core design that is really getting great results. The specific shape of the core allows for consistency of dynamic design after drilling. In layman's terms that means you can drill the Prodigy with all kinds of layouts and know you will get predictable, consistent results from the break point all the way to the pocket.
After trying all kinds of covers with this hot new core Storm settled on the R2X pearl material with Enhanced Traction Mica as this produced the best results where it mattered... on the lanes. R2X with ETM had already more than proven itself with the Storm Second Dimension. Use a 4000 grit finish and your glide through the heads will be clean while still allowing you to control the midlane.
Storm Bowling has produced some really agressive, top selling bowling balls in the past year and a half with the Virtual Gravity realeased back in October of 2008 and the Virtual Energy released seven months later in the summer of 2009. With their most recent release, another big hit I might add, they have made a departure from the Virtual name for the Premier line of balls. They instead went with Invasion for this newest ball.
The asymmetrical core design of the Storm Invasion is different from any other Storm ball released before it. Storm claims it's unlike any ball on the market! Of course, that's what they all say, huh? In real life testing though it does seem to be the case! Many customers say the advertising isn't just hype. This ball is a beast! The new design gives the ball a faster revving core with a more exactly pinpointable (if that's a word) break point. The Invasion begins the hook sooner and instead of getting a weaker angle of entry into the pocket as you might expect, it actually gives you a stronger, bigger angle of entry! With the R3X coverstock, the ball gets more motion when you're in the oil. It gets significantly more friction in oil than the R2X, the previous Reactor series coverstock from Storm.
In review, the Storm Invasion performs very well in heavy oil conditions. It starts its hook sooner than many other balls but still has a very strong entry angle. And based on user reviews, it seems that it keeps the pins falling! Oh, and if you're wondering, it smells like mulberry!
Ebonite is on a mission right now. They are working to create some top notch high performance bowling balls for you and me! That's great because Ebonite is a strong brand with a history of quality, performance products. So it definitely is nice to see some exciting new balls coming down the pipe.
What's the latest and greates bowling ball from Ebonite? Well that would be the well publicized, highly rated Ebonite Mission. We were excited to see this ball released early in January! From what we've seen, the anticipation was wall deserved. It wasn't hype. This is a quality bowling ball and we definitely think you should consider it the next time you need to upgrade your arsenal. Enough of us hyping it up. Let's talk about some of the details of the ball and find out what other people are saying.
One serious feature of the Mission is that it's made to performa at a high level and keep on performing at a high level on the type of lane conditions most of us are bowling on today. That means less maintanance and more bowling, performing very well on everything from medium to very heavy oil patterns. Ebonite has never tested a product more than the Mission. The reason? The pro staff at Ebonite wanted to know for sure the new XL1200 Reactive coverstock would last the way they predicted it would. The Mission 1.0 weight block gives you good length and a nice backend continuation. Customers are saying the ball is very predictable on a wide variety of lane conditions. We've been told it hooks better than a number of heavy hitting balls from Storm and Roto Grip. Bowler after bowler who have tried out this ball say it has incredible hitting power.
So what do we have with the new Mission from Ebonite? An easily controllable, heavy hitting ball with monster hook and a long lasting, high performance coverstock. Sounds like a winner to the staff at BowlZilla.
Hammer has been on a serious roll of late with quality products that people really seem to love. The Black Widow line from Hammer Bowling has really dominated much of the industry the last few years since the introduction of the original Black Widow back in mid 2006 and the Black Widow Pearl about a year later. Since then Hammer has introduced four more Widow line high-performance bowling balls including the Black Widow Bite, Venom, Sting and the most recent (and the one we want to discuss today), the Hammer Black Widow Nasty.
The original Widow, and really all the balls in this series, have been known for length and an aggressive breakpoint. The Nasty is no different. In fact, Hammer describes this new offering as having the dirtiest ball motion featured in the Widow line. However, they also claim that the breakpoint is easier to control. That sounds like a pretty good combination to me! This allows you to throw wide and get a controlled, big break for lots of pin action. As always, new improvements to core and coverstock technologies are at play here, including a higher differential and a lower mass bias making the ball easier to drill.
So let's review. More forgiving on the break... check. Easier to control... check. Easier to drill... check. Excellent grip in medium to heavy oil patterns... check. Can be found for a pretty cheap price online... check. Based on sales, customer reviews, and what we know about this bowling ball, everyone at BowlZilla is pretty sure the latest in the Widow line from Hammer, the Black Widow Nasty is proving itself an instant classic!
